How to play PlayWordy
PlayWordy is easy to start and hard to master. Here you'll find the goal, the rules, the stars and how to play the daily game or private games.
The goal
Find as many words as you can from the letters in the game. Any word of three letters or more counts, as long as it's in the dictionary, and letters can be repeated within a word.
Basic rules
- At least three letters.
- Words must be in the dictionary.
- You can only use the letters in the game.
- Letters can be repeated within a word.
The daily game
A new game starts every midnight with seven different letters, and you have 24 hours to play it. Everyone plays the same letters, so you can compare your score with others on the leaderboard.
Private and team games
You can create private games and invite anyone with a link. You choose the duration, the difficulty and whether it's played individually or in teams. It's ideal for playing with friends, family or your class.
The stars
The «stars» are the words that use every letter in the game. They're the hardest to find, and there can be more than one.
The cards
Cards are one of the things that make PlayWordy unique. As you play you can earn cards —for example, by chaining correct words or completing small challenges— and play them whenever you like.
There are several types: some help you (they give you hints about a word, tell you how many are left or flag a typo as you write) and others affect the other players (like stealing a letter or shuffling their letters to make it harder).
In private and team games, cards add a lot of strategy and fun.
Tips to get started
Start with short, easy words to get into a rhythm and then look for longer ones. If you get stuck, try common prefixes and suffixes and remember that letters can be repeated.

What do I need to play?
Game instructions
The goal is to form words. To form a word, click on each letter (letters can be repeated) and, once the word is ready, click the central green button to validate it.
Words with a minimum of 3 letters that appear in the dictionary are accepted.
If a word is marked as incorrect but actually appears in the dictionary, please let us know at info@playwordy.com.
How the game works
There are two main modes:
- Daily game
The first is the daily game. It's the easiest way to start and understand the game.
To join the daily game, just go to playwordy.com. The first time you'll need to sign up. The Google login option is recommended.
Every day at midnight a new game starts, lasting 24 hours. Each day there are different letters and therefore different words to find. You can see yesterday's solutions by clicking, inside the game, on "Yesterday's game".
While the game is running you'll see a ranking showing how many words each person has found.
- Private games
Any user can create a private game and, through the link they get, invite whoever they want. Only people with that link can access the game.
The user who creates the game can choose the duration (between 1 and 30 minutes) and the difficulty, among other parameters. They can also choose whether the game is individual or by teams. Tip: a team game with all players on the same team becomes a cooperative game!
The private game is the ideal option, for example, if you're a teacher and want to play with your students, although, of course, anyone can play the daily game.
To create a private game, click on the menu (top-left icon). Then click on "Games" and follow the instructions.
When the game ends, a final summary appears: you'll see the final ranking, which words each player found, how each player evolved over time, etc.
